Khichadi is a simple diet, healthy food, made in northern part of India. Down south intamil Nadu it is known as pongal or venpongal. It is made with split gram, with rice topped with seasoning. A light and healthy diet!
Khichadi / Pongal / Venpongal / Khichdi

Ingredients
Rice 1 cup
Split green gram (Moong dal) 1 ½ cup
Green chilies 4
Turmeric powder (haldi) ½ tsp
Salt to taste
For Seasoning
Ghee 4 tbsp
Curry leaves (curry patta)
Asafetida (heeng) 1 pinch
Ginger 1” (finely chopped)
Pepper (kali mirch) ½ tsp
Cumin (jeera) ½ tsp
Urad dal ½ tsp
Method
Roast the Split green gram (moong dal) wash it and keep it aside. Wash rice thoroughly and soak it for ½ an hr. in a vessel mix Split green gram (moong dal), rice, Turmeric powder (haldi), green chilles and salt. Put enough water and pressure cook.
Seasoning
Heat ghee in a vessel, add Curry leaves (curry patta), Asafetida (heeng), Ginger, Pepper (kali mirch), Cumin (jeera), Urad dal and fry well. Pour it over the cooked rice. Mix well.
Serve hot with spicy chutney or sambar.
