Made with snake gourd and pulses this dal is nutritious and easy to make.
Snake Gourd Dal / Chicheda ka Dal

Ingredients
Snake gourd (chicheda/chichonda/chachida/chirchira) 200 gms, washed, cleaned and chopped
Pigeon peas (tuvar / toor dal) ½ cup
Split mung bean (moong dal) ½ cup
Turmeric powder (haldi) ½ tsp
Salt to taste
Water for cooking
For Seasoning
Curry leaves (kari patta) 2 sprigs
Mustard seeds (rai) ½ tsp
Cumin seeds (jeera) ½ tsp
Asafetida (heeng) 1 pinch
Green chillies 3-4, cut
Oil 1 tbsp
Method
Pressure cook dal along with snake gourd (chicheda), remove from heat and let it cool.
Now mash dal add salt, turmeric powder (haldi), sambar powder and cook till thick and remove from heat.
Prepare the tempering by heating oil add all the ingredients and fry, once it sputters pour it over the dal, mix well. Before serving garnish with coriander leaves (dhania leaves) and serve with rice or rotis.
