Boorelu/ Koyakattai/ Kozhakattai /Sweet Dumplings


Sweet dumplings are prepared basically in southern part of India. In Andhra they are called as boorelu, in Tamil Nadu as Koyakattai or Kozhakattai. The are made with rice flour dough with coconut, jaggery filling.

Ingredients

For Dough

Rice flour 3 cups
Water 6 cups
Oil 3 tsp

For Stuffing

Grated coconut 4 cups
Jaggery (gud) 200 gms
Dry fruits ½ cup (cashew nuts, almonds)
Cardamom powder (elaichi powder) 1 tsp


Method

Dough Preparation-

Boil water and oil together remove from heat. To this add rice flour keep stirring avoid lump formation. Cover and let it cool. After cooling knead it well.

Stuffing Preparation-

Heat, Jaggery over low flame, keep stirring continuously. Now, mix all the ingredients of stuffing.

Make small balls of rice dough; place the stuffing in the centre of the dough. Join the edges so that it attains the shape of whole garlic pod. Steam these dumplings for 10 minutes. Let it cool and serve.
