Uttapam/ Uthappam

Uttapam is a south Indian break fast recipe made with idli batter. It is generously mixed with chopped vegetables like, onion, tomatoes, carrots, peas, green chillies coriander leaves. Pancakes are prepared with the batter and served with chutneys.

Uttapam/ Uthappam

Category- Vegetarian


Idli dosa batter 4 cups
Onions, 1 medium, finely chopped
Tomatoes 1, finely chopped
Carrot 1 medium, finely chopped
Green chillies 3-4, finely chopped
Peas (optional)
Cumin seeds (jeera) 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves (dhania leaves) 1 small bunch, finely chopped
Oil for cooking


In a large mixing bowl mix the batter with the all the ingredients, leaving the oil.

Take flat tawa heat it and apply some oil. Take small quantity of batter; spread it in circular motion. Put one tsp of oil along the edges. Once the side is cooked flip it to the other side. Uttapam/ Uthappam could be served with coconut chutneys, sambars and podi’s.
